Alyd Air has been extremely fortunate to enlist the services of retired SAA Senior Training Captain and CRM Facilitator, Gerhard Robberts. He retired some years ago due to complications arising from a back operation, and is compiling a course specially focussing on general aviation. When CRM was first presented in SAA in the early ‘80’s, Gerhard was among the first batch of facilitators, and has always remained actively involved, currently running CRM courses for Mango Airlines – this gives him close on 30 years of CRM experience!  Specifically because Gerhard grew up in general aviation and instruction before finally going to SAA, he has intimate insight and knowledge of what is lacking is most CRM courses presented to people like us. Earlier this year, when we discussed these shortcomings, he indicated his willingness to look into designing such a course, and has now agreed to come down to Cape Town and present his two day course.  Our first very successful course was held at Alyd Air’s offices on the 12th and 13th of October.

Alyd Air charter services was founded in 1993 when the founding member Dr. James Dawson, a medical doctor and commercial pilot flew a Piper Aztec F model out across the Atlantic and down through Africa to South Africa.

He partnered with Vincent Stanford, an aeronautical engineer in 1995 and an application was made and approved for a Domestic Air Service License in that year.

Other members have joined our aircraft charter company in the intervening years, with many years of flying experience and chartering.

Some members also instruct at various Flying Clubs.

Hans Battenfeld, from Germany joined the company in 2004.
